As-tu une vie active? / Es-tu actif?
KS3 presentation aimed at Y8 students to describe and explain whether they think they have an active lifestyle. The presentation uses basic activities with je joue/je fais then helps the students improve their writing by adding frequencies, negative structures (ne…pas/jamais) and opinion infinitive phrases. Finally we look at 2 sample answers (active and not active lifestyles) where a typical basic answer has been improved. We discuss these improvements (underlined in texts) and students can then write their own answers.
First slide is hidden and would be printed as a handout.
Chez le medecin
Powerpoint teaching students to understand and build up a conversation at the doctor. Starter: X/O on pains and ailments. Main: Using a conversation as an example, focus on the different parts adding vocab/grammar (pouvoir, depuis, passé compose, il faut). Parts of the conversation then disappear to give place to generic instructions for students to adapt for their own role play (I use finger/hand puppets). I don't make students write anything, just give them a copy of the important slides on one handout so they spend less time copying and more time using/manipulating the language
Account of a past holiday - first lesson/recap
A first (revision) lesson on building an account of a past holiday. Revises: past tense of key verbs, key vocabulary (weather, destinations, transports, who with? duration, accommodation) using thinking skills activities. It usually comes up in Y10 but I used it with a top set Y9. Enjoy ;)
Passe Compose/Perfect tense flowchart handout
I have tried numerous ways of explaining the past tense and there are some great resources on the TES for tutorials and activities. However I could not find an easy to follow handout covering everything there is to know about the passé composé, that was straight forward and fitted on 2 pages (either for double sided copies or 2 A5 on an A4 landscape way). Anyway, I ended up making my own and I hope you find it useful too ☺ I usually do whole class examples and later use mini whiteboards for individual practice.

Recognising infinitive, present, perfect and near future (hobbies verbs)
A whole lesson (or 2) literally drilling the differences in patterns for key hobbies verbs ans some irregular verbs in the infinitive, present, perfect and near future. A lot of repetition involved at the beginning which can seem quite daunting/boring but I explain to my students that you don't remember something after having it seen/heard/said it just once and they get on board with the experiment.
Instructions for each activity are in the notes section on the slides.
The word document has to be printed on coloured paper/card (purple for infinitive, red/pink for present, blue for perfect and green for near future). They then need to be sliced and each student should have one of each tense/colour that they can then put up/show in relevant activity/ies.
